Kherson - a city in southern Ukraine. Kherson is a city and administrative center of Kherson region (oblast), southern Ukraine. The city was founded in 1778 by the military leader and statesman Grigory Potemkin as a fortress to protect the newly acquired Black Sea frontage of Russia.

Kherson was named after ancient city of Khersones. In early 19th century Kherson city became a significant commercial port. Today Kherson is a very interesting city both for tourists and businessmen. It is, first of all, the famous shipbuilding town. The symbol of the city is a monument - sailer. Kherson port is one of the ten largest ports in Ukraine.

Kherson is not a tourist center, but tourist groups come here regularly. One of the most popular trips to Ukraine - a cruise on the Dnieper - passes through this hospitable city. Tourists have possibility to see such Kherson attractions as Kherson fortress ruins, Spassky Cathedral and the famous lighthouse of Kherson (Adzhigolsky lighthouse). Kherson city has teacher-training and agricultural institutes and a research institute of irrigation agriculture.

Places of interest.

In the city there are many historical memorials. The historical part of the city according to its architectural building was divided into separate districts: Greek, Polish, German, Jewish, etc.

One of architectural pearls of the city, its historical and architectural memorial is the stone Temple of Uspinnya Bohorodutsi built in 1786. The city has a remarkable zone of rest! These are entertaining complexes on Dnipro: Hydropark, "Calypso", "Panski Rozvahy", the centers of green tourism, sports water stations, tourist bases; clubs.

The special attention is paid to development of sports base of the city. Such sports directions as children’s, youthful sports have considerable achievement. The best traditions of humanism have continuation in development of invalid sports.

Youth makes third part of the population. 27 higher educational institutions prepare high-quality specialists for the whole Ukraine. Thus, Kherson has its special, youth character. Lots of traditional festivals create celebratory mood throughout all year. One of the most popular youth tourism directions today is "Kherson festival".

Business tourism has gained considerable development. Kherson has friendly relations with many regions of the world. These are Zalaegerseg (Hungary), Zonguldak (Turkey), Kent, Tucson (USA), Shumen (Bulgaria), Sypin, Tsinan (Peoples Republic of China), and Rouen (France). Relations with Ploeshta (Romania) are established. Creative and economic communications exist with Moscow, Surgut, Kaliningrad (Russia), Kishinev, Tyraspil (Moldova).

Kherson is an active member of the International Black Sea Club (24 cities of the different countries of the world). The city is a member of Association of cities of Ukraine and the International assembly of capitals and big cities where there are presented 55 cities from 9 CIS countries.

In the city the number of hotels, establishments of fast food and elite restaurants increases. The new entertaining centers are opened. To services of visitors there are stadiums, pools, ice covered arena, theatres, concert halls, museums, parks, squares and, as usual, benevolent smiles, hospitality of local people, that is the integral part of the city not only of sunny summer, but also throughout all year.

I decided to give my lady English lessons as when I went to see her she had a little difficulty in understanding me when I spoke sometimes because I would speak to fast and sometimes words she did not understand. When I went back to see her a few months later her English had improved and I think she understood me a little easier too. The staff at the office are good tutors, only a few months had passed but a good improvement.
